OVERSEEDING
Do you want a healthy lawn? In most cases, a healthy lawn equates to a beautiful-looking lawn. When you see a lawn that has that lush and deeply rich green grass, it is going to be a healthy lawn and 9-out-of-10 times you can bet it was aerated and overseeded. Now.. what exactly is aeration and overseeding?
What is aeration?
Aeration: is the perforating of soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots.
Why is it important?
With our South-Eastern heavy clay soil; rain, foot traffic, and the natural properties of heavy clay all contribute toward soil compaction. Thus, grass roots are restricted, water infiltration is reduced and overall.. the lawn suffers.
Aeration, essentially, opens up the soil. Water infiltration to the root zone is increased, soil decompression is enhanced, root expansion is encouraged, soil health is boosted (due to microbial activity), and overall.. the lawn rejoices.
What is overseeding?
Why is it important?
Pairing overseeding with aeration is like pairing peanut butter with jelly. It just makes sense. After a lawn is aerated, the soil is perfect for putting down new seed. This is because the new seed that is spread across the lawn is more likely to germinate and grow deeper roots.
